Salazar’s “Men”

I notice in alot

of stories, rps and fanfics

that

people have Salazar referring

to

the crew of

the Silent

Mary as “My crew” or “

the crew”, and alhough

tha

t

IS what

they are, it

is acually more likely

that

he would refer

to them as “My men”, or “

The men”, since he is a Naval captain.

The word “Crew” sounds much

too unprofessional for someone like Salazar

to be using, more suited for

those captaining merchant and pirate ships.

The Silent Mary, Salazar pointed out, had not always looked the way it did now. At one point, it had been the pride of the Spanish Navy, and he, as the ship’s captain, a hero. The ship had more weapons than five ships combined. Its many levels of decks were always spotless, as were the uniforms of the men who crewed it. Salazar commanded all this with a vicious ease. He led by example: his face kept clean-shaven, his uniform pressed every morning, his shoes polished, his sword shining.

You know what annoys me most about what they did wth the crew of the Silent Mary? It’s that they did not show them interacting with each other the way we saw other crews on other ships interact. It’s the fact they were portrayed as unemotional creatures that did nothing but kill, when the truth is they were simply human beings that were doing their duty – Pirate Hunting – and as a result were portrayed as villains, unemotional beings that enjoyed killing.
Worst of all, they were killed immediately after having their curse broken, giving them absolutely no chance of redemption.
I doubt Salazar would have been redeemable, his hatred for pirates was his downfall, but the rest of the crew did not deserve to go down with him, and that’s what I hate about what they did here.

Devil’s Triangle Opening Scene

I was reading a review someone made of POTC5 the other day, and they stated how pointless they thought it was that Salazar attacked the Monarch. Well, no, it wasn’t pointless if you think about it. First of all, in the era the movie is set in, Spain and Britain were enemies, they were always at war with each other, so when two Naval ships from these countires came across each other they quite often were hostile to each other. The other thing you have to remember is the Monarch fired their cannons first, and yes, the Silent Mary was coming towards them, but that was only because the Monarch had crossed its bow, a move that was seen as threatening in those days. The Captain of the Monarch could have not given the order to fire the guns, but unfortunately he did, therefore they sealed their own fate by making the first agressive move.
